Vesuvius Organic Wine Tasting and Lunch from Sorrento
Why travelers loved this
4.7 · 3 reviewsOwner/ chef Ester gave us a special tour and allowed us to make a four course lunch in her home at the winery. We were in awe and loved making gnocchi and eggplant Parmesan. The wine and hospitality were great. We bought 5 cookbooks and I would go back in a second to try more food there.
We had a fabulous time here on the last day of our honeymoon! A very special and private tour filled with fine wine & great staff. We shipped bottles of everything we tasted back to the U.S. ! So good, support this locally owned business if you’re in the area!!
About This Experience
Sorrento's day-trip menu is famous, Capri, Pompeii, the coast drive, but the one locals would pick is quieter: hotel pickup from Sorrento, the climb to Cantina del Vesuvio inside the Vesuvius National Park, and a long organic lunch with the Russo family's five-wine Lacryma Christi tasting. The winery earns its cult status honestly. Three generations of the Russo family have farmed these south-facing slopes, where the National Park's protected black soils and the nearby sea produce organic Lacryma Christi DOC of singular character, and where the entire limited production sells exclusively at the cellar door. No shop, no export, no second chance: the tasting room is the only address on earth pouring these bottles. Your visit runs the estate's full ritual: a guided tour of the winery, then five wine tastings of Vesuvio Lacryma Christi DOC, white through red, seated beside a three-course lunch built from the mountain's own specialties. The gulf spreads out below, Capri floats on the horizon, and the afternoon takes exactly as long as it wants to. The Sorrento logistics are seamless: private transportation with hotel pick-up and drop-off and an English-speaking driver, meaning the peninsula's traffic and the volcano's switchbacks are somebody else's concern from door to door. As a day trip it balances the peninsula perfectly, one day for the crowds' greatest hits, one for a working farm on a volcano, and it photographs almost unfairly well: vines, crater and coastline in a single frame. Wine Trails confirms your date instantly online, booked direct with the operator, with no middleman markup on the price. Seasonal notes reward planning: spring wraps the vineyard in wildflowers, September brings harvest energy to the terraces, and summer's clear mornings serve the gulf views at full strength. Sorrento's evening passeggiata waits at the end either way, best enjoyed while deciding which of the winery-only bottles to open first. Sorrento's terraces will still be pouring spritzes when you return; the difference is you will be carrying wine that exists nowhere else, from a family that has farmed a volcano for three generations, with lunch among their vines already behind you. That is a day trip with a story attached.

We came in 2017 & Returned in 2025
We came in 2017 with our entire family of 7. Today, we visited as a couple. So, the new “wine club” is perfetto. Beautiful views from the ocean and Mount Vesuvius. The wine and pairing is exceptional, come hungry, there’s plenty of food. The wine vinegar is exceptional. We bought 2 bottles. Great deals shipping wine back to the USA.
