4.9 · 1 reviewMy wife and I booked a 3-day/2-night private tour with Michael through the Rioja and Ribera del Duero regions. We had an incredible, unforgettable experience and would highly recommend Vine Travel. The website promises a “wine trip that feels less like a tour and more like being let in on a secret” . . . and Michael more than delivers! Over three days, we met the coolest local wine producers and families. Michael has built genuine relationships across these regions. This allowed special access to cellars and vineyards, to private tastings, and to so many personal and authentic interactions with local winemakers. We rode a Hummer to the top of one of the highest vineyards in Rioja. We explored the centuries-old cellars and caves of historic properties. We tasted an aging reserve wine from the barrel at one winery; and a much younger wine not long after harvest from another. We walked through wine making processes and had countless fun discussions (over wine) with owners, experts, and passionate locals. We tasted as much wine as we could have asked. During our trip, Michael make sure we enjoyed and appreciated the most incredible local villages, vineyards, and viewpoints. You will be blown away by the beauty, history, and character of the region. Michael also arranged some terrific meals. (Don’t miss the pintxos crawl on Calle Laurel in Logroño.) Michael is knowledgeable, well-regarded, and fun. We were blessed to spend a private 3-day tour with him. I’d recommend that you trust him in winery recommendations and planning. We did – and we were blown away with the trip, with unique experiences each day. Michael also helped us to arrange a shipment of wine back to the U.S., so we could remember (and enjoy again) each of our special winery visits.
About This Experience
Three days in Rioja with the hotels booked, a Michelin-starred table waiting, and a wine expert running the route: this is the deepest Spanish wine experience in our collection, and the difference between tasting Rioja and actually living in it for a long weekend. The journey begins with the drive from Madrid to Logroño, Rioja's lively capital, where a Michelin-starred lunch opens the trip in style. That afternoon brings your first tasting at an urban winery, a modern face of a very old region, before an evening free to explore Logroño's famous tapas streets, where Calle Laurel alone can fill a night. The days that follow move into the vineyards themselves: exclusive winery visits across the region, guided tastings that trace Tempranillo from young vintages to long-aged Gran Reservas, and the landscapes of vines, sierra and stone villages that make Rioja Spain's most storied wine country. Your guide handles every kilometre, every appointment and every recommendation, in English or Spanish as you prefer. The logistics are genuinely taken care of: four-star hotel accommodation for both nights is included, along with two lunches, one dinner, bottled water throughout, and snacks at several of the wineries. A couple of meals are deliberately left open, day one's dinner and day two's lunch, which in Logroño is a feature, not a gap: your guide will point you to the bars and asadores locals argue about. Three days matters in a region like this. Day trips see one face of Rioja; three days lets you compare sub-zones, revisit styles, taste slowly and actually remember what you learned. It is the format serious wine travellers eventually graduate to, and the reason this trip books well in advance. Your reservation is confirmed online, with flexible cancellation up to 48 hours before departure, and Wine Trails books the experience direct, with no middleman markup on the price. For a milestone birthday, an anniversary, or simply the wine trip you have been promising yourself, this is the one that earns the word experience: Michelin dining, cellar doors that open by arrangement, two nights in wine country comfort, and a region with a thousand years of winemaking, given the three days it deserves.
