In Central Otago: The Arrow River Bridges Trail leaves the heart of Arrowtown's historic precinct and runs 23 gently undulating kilometres into Gibbston wine country — a Grade 2 (easy) ride that crosses the Edgar Suspension Bridge before joining the Gibbston River Trail at the Kawarau Bungy Bridge. Count the daredevils as you cross. Check in at Ramshaw Lane, Arrowtown, at 10.20am for a bike fitting and trail briefing, and explore the old gold-mining township — ruins, galleries, the Lakes District Museum — before riding east above the Kawarau River. Kids can ride their own bikes or tag along on a tow-behind on this family-friendly trail. In Gibbston, two tastings await: the Classic Wine Tasting at Kinross Cellar Door, then a guided wine flight at Mt Rosa Wines, home of the Kiwi Journeys depot.
