About This Experience

In McLaren Vale: Sabrage is the Napoleonic way to open a bottle, and Sidewood teaches it at its cellar door in Hahndorf, in the Adelaide Hills about an hour from McLaren Vale. The masterclass opens with the history and theatre of the tradition and the technique behind it. Then it is your turn: personal coaching from the Sidewood team, your own bottle of Sidewood sparkling to sabre under supervision, and a glass of sparkling to enjoy once the cork and collar have flown. Seventy-five minutes, two to six guests, at 6 River Road, Hahndorf. Optional upgrades let you drink your sabred bottle over lunch in the restaurant or with a tasting board.

Pricing is $110 per couple, aditional bottles may be purchaced for odd booking numbers. For your safety and the safety of others, this experience involves the handling of glass and a blunt sabre under staff supervision. Guests must follow all instructions provided by Sidewood Estate staff throughout the session. Participants must be 18 years or older. Eye protection is required—personal sunglasses or eyewear are acceptable—and long sleeves are advised. Closed-toe shoes are also recommended. Sidewood Estate staff reserve the right to refuse participation or stop the activity at any time if a guest is deemed intoxicated, disruptive, or behaving in an unsafe manner. By booking this experience, guests acknowledge the inherent risks involved and agree to participate at their own risk.
