Rueda White Wine Tour with Michelin-Star Lunch from Madrid
Why travelers loved this
4.9 · 1 reviewMy wife and I booked a 3-day/2-night private tour with Michael through the Rioja and Ribera del Duero regions. We had an incredible, unforgettable experience and would highly recommend Vine Travel. The website promises a “wine trip that feels less like a tour and more like being let in on a secret” . . . and Michael more than delivers! Over three days, we met the coolest local wine producers and families. Michael has built genuine relationships across these regions. This allowed special access to cellars and vineyards, to private tastings, and to so many personal and authentic interactions with local winemakers. We rode a Hummer to the top of one of the highest vineyards in Rioja. We explored the centuries-old cellars and caves of historic properties. We tasted an aging reserve wine from the barrel at one winery; and a much younger wine not long after harvest from another. We walked through wine making processes and had countless fun discussions (over wine) with owners, experts, and passionate locals. We tasted as much wine as we could have asked. During our trip, Michael make sure we enjoyed and appreciated the most incredible local villages, vineyards, and viewpoints. You will be blown away by the beauty, history, and character of the region. Michael also arranged some terrific meals. (Don’t miss the pintxos crawl on Calle Laurel in Logroño.) Michael is knowledgeable, well-regarded, and fun. We were blessed to spend a private 3-day tour with him. I’d recommend that you trust him in winery recommendations and planning. We did – and we were blown away with the trip, with unique experiences each day. Michael also helped us to arrange a shipment of wine back to the U.S., so we could remember (and enjoy again) each of our special winery visits.
About This Experience
Verdejo is Spain's great white grape, and Rueda is its home ground: sandy soils, cool nights, and crisp, aromatic wines that Spaniards drink by the case while the rest of the world catches up. This gourmet day trip from Madrid visits two carefully chosen estates and builds the day around a Michelin-starred lunch. Your wine-expert guide takes you north-west from Madrid into DO Rueda, where the itinerary balances vineyard and cellar. At the two estates you walk the vines, tour modern cellars, and learn how Rueda's sandy soils and cool nights shape the wines, from clean, stainless-steel Verdejo to barrel-fermented, old-vine cuvées, with a splash of Sauvignon Blanc for contrast. Across the day you enjoy guided tastings of at least six wines. Midday brings the table this tour is named for: a Michelin-starred lunch, a multi-course seasonal menu that shows why Castilian cooking and Verdejo belong together. Wine days that include serious food change character entirely, and this one is deliberately built that way, a gastronomy trip and a wine trip sharing one itinerary. The practicalities are covered: travel in an air-conditioned vehicle with bottled water and snacks provided, and wine tastings at both wineries included. Tours run in English and Spanish, and the round trip from Madrid means no driving, no navigation, and no compromise at the tasting bench. Rueda makes a particularly rewarding day trip precisely because it is under-visited: the estates receive guests personally, the roads are quiet, and the wines, ubiquitous on Spanish tables, taste different at the source, with the vineyard outside the window. The day also slots cleanly into a Madrid stay: you leave after breakfast, spend the middle of the day among vines and starred cooking, and return to the capital with the evening free, which makes it an easy yes even on a short trip built mostly around the city. Book with confidence: your date is confirmed instantly online, with flexible cancellation up to 48 hours before departure, and Wine Trails books direct with no middleman markup on the price. Red wine gets most of Spain's headlines; this day makes white wine's counter-argument, six-plus glasses of it, capped with a Michelin-starred lunch in the middle of Castile. For wine travellers who think they know Spanish wine, Rueda is the freshest surprise within reach of Madrid.
